Who among us has ever taken a boat trip to Komodo Island? East of Sumbawa Island in the Nusa Tenggara Islands and connected to it by the Sape Strait is Komodo Island. Travelers who enjoy nature tourism are advised to visit this area.

Giant monitor lizards of the Komodo, Rinca, Flores, Gili Motang, and Gili Dasami species, also known as Komodo dragons, are found on these islands in the Province of NTT.

Historical Animal Vegetation

On Komodo Island, Rinca, Flores, in the Province of East Nusa Tenggara, there is a species of large monitor lizard known as the Komodo dragon. These extinct creatures, which have been around for hundreds or even thousands of years, live on Komodo Island. The Komodo dragon is a protected species under government law, and its habitat has been turned into a national park because of its dwindling presence there.

Komodo dragons survive and reproduce successfully on Komodo Island. On this island, there are thought to be 1,300 Komodo dragons. Their combined population totals reach about 2500 when combined with those of other islands like Rinca Island and Gili Motang. Not counting the region of Komodo National Park, there are also about 100 Komodo dragons in the Wae Wuul Nature Reserve on the Flores Island mainland.

The World Heritage Site

The Komodo National Park was designated a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1991. This was established because Komodo Island embraced a state of nature with unique phenomena and aesthetics. In 1977, Komodo Island received another designation: that of Cultural and Biosphere Reserve.

Research Objectives

Komodo island boat trip is not just known for its breathtaking natural scenery. Scientists from different nations also conduct research there. The Komodo dragon was among the flora and fauna that the researchers analyzed while on the island. The evolution of the Komodo dragon, an old creature that is still alive today, is of particular interest to researchers.

Komodo Island has been named one of the top tourist destinations in addition to being a World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Komodo Island is listed as one of the top 10 places to visit in the world in the July 2017 issue of National Geographic.
