Leave your itinerary with your family or friends you trust back at home. This way, they can help monitor your whereabouts. If you don’t return at the time stated in your itinerary, they can ask for immediate help. Also, they will be able to inform the authority where to begin the search because they have your itinerary. This may sound exaggerating for some travelers but it will be your life saver when something bad that only happen in movie happens to you. 

Make a copy of important papers

Always make a copy of your important documents prior the trip. You can use the copy for various purpose. For example, you can use it if you lose your passport while travel abroad. If you don’t like carrying papers a lot, scan your document and save them in your phone. You can retrieve the data anytime you need especially during emergency.

Not having your phone in crowded places

It is best to not have your phone out in crowded place because it puts the target in your back for the thieves to steal the phone. They can snatch your phone in just few seconds. It will make it hard to take it back with the crowds around you. Hence, try resist the temptation of scrolling down your phone in public during your trip such as in the subway, bus, or local market. 

Choose transportation carefully 

Be mindful when choosing your transportation mode during your trip. Keep in mind that one of the biggest cause of deaths of tourists while travelling abroad is traffic accident. Taking a scooter or neglecting your seat belt can be the cause of your nightmare during your trip. If you are not sure about the areas, it is better to not drive yourself. Always take safety measure such as wearing helmet and putting on the seat belt during your exploration to the unknown places. 

Local emergency numbers

Put local emergency number in your phone in advance. Calling 911 may not get you any help when you are abroad. Hence, learn the local emergency contact prior your trip and save it in your phone. It is even better if you can remember the number without looking at your phone. This way, you will always be able to dial the number during emergency situation including when you are unable to use your own phone.
