One of the most challenging this is the preparation. You need to decide what kind of travel destination that is right for your elderly parents. You also need to book the right accommodation. Not to mention that you need to make proper itinerary so that the pace won’t be too rush for your elderly parents. In addition, you need to do the packing right.

How to pack when you are going to travel with elderly parents

It is important to remind yourself that your elderly parents are not a baby. Babying them too much will only discourage them to truly feel the excitement of the trip. They are not helpless so make sure to treat them properly. Here are some tips to make the packing properly:

  • The first items you need to pack for elderly travelers is clothing.  Basically, you need to pack clothing just like you usually do for yourself when you are going to travel. You can let your elderly packs the clothing by themselves. However, make sure to watch them so that they don’t pack too many clothes. The clothing you should pack should be adjusted to the travel destination’s condition. Thus, make sure to find out the weather forecast prior to your departure. Just make sure to pack extra sweater or layers for chillier days.
  • Next important things to pack when you are going to travel with your elderly parents is medication. Your elderly parents usually have medication they should take regularly. Make sure to bring enough supply of medication they need. Put them in a place where they can be easily reached. If your elderly parents don’t take certain medication, you can pack ‘just in case’ medication such as pain killer, first aid kit, etc.
  • Your elderly parents may need comfort products as well such as portable raise toilet seat, plastic bag, baby wipes, etc. Those are useful to make the journey go smoothly and your elderly parents will stay comfortable as well. If there is certain brand your elderly like which you are not sure that it will be available in your destination, bring one from home.
  • Elderly parents tend to be more sensitive about foods. Always ready to pack extra water bottle throughout the journey. You also need to pack some snacks especially the one your elderly parents like the most. Also, make sure that the snacks are healthy. It is even better if you do some research beforehand about the foods available in your travel destination so you will be more prepared of where to eat out later with your elderly parents.
