Being a traveler and tourist alike makes you uneasy prey for a petty crime such as pickpocket. This type of crime can be avoided if you are more aware of your surroundings and always stay your guard. Of course it is easier said than done because there are so many things to distract you while sightseeing in the middle of crowded touristy place. 

How to keep your money and valuable safe when traveling

Even if have tried your best to stay on guard when travelling, thieves usually work in group systematically. They have such an organized plan to execute to steal your belongings, especially wallet. This kind of crime is almost in every country regardless the condition of the economy of the locals. And here are some times to consider to keep your money and valuable safe while on the road:

Be prepared for the travel you are going to do regardless of the destination. Make sure to keep your valuables such as money, credit cards, and passports are in safe place. Avoid using a purse to carry your valuables be it money, gadget, or jewelry because it can be easily snatched. Also, avoid carrying your valuables in your backpack because it can be opened without you noticing, unless you wear it at your front. 

The safest alternative is to use a money pouch you can sneakily insert in your clothing. You can also attach it to your belt or be worn around the waist, calf, or neck. Choose the one that is most practical and comfortable for you. You can also use other items to keep your money and valuables safe such as key chains, belts, as well as cases. They are affordable and useful to sue during travel.

It is not recommended to leave your valuables in the safe of your hotel room. There is no guarantee it will be broken since it is not so difficult to break in. Besides, the hotel usually refuse liability for the loss of any items you put int he safe. It is best to leave your valuables at home especially if it is unnecessary for your trip. As for your money, make sure to carry it in different places and don’t put them all in your wallet in case of emergency. 

If you have travel companion, watch each other’s back. Make sure each of you has some cash and cards in hand. If you have expired credit card, you can bring that with you and put it together few bills in your wallet. So if you are confronted by thieves, you can just toss it on the ground as a diversion. Also, be careful when using ATMs, make sure no one waiting behind and take the receipt with you. 

Use your common sense and trust your intuition when travel. Always keep your belonging close to you. If something is suspicious, remove yourself from the place and move somewhere safer. Always be careful when you are in a crowd because you might get distracted while your valuables are being snatched.
