Diving the Wreck in Bali: Underwater Photography Guide

Diving in the wreck is an adventure within adventure. There’s something alluring on exploring a remnant of human technology abandoned in the deep sea, reclaimed by mother nature. The eerie feeling you’ll feel where you’re swimming across the hallways, passing hollow windows where its passengers used to stare outside back when the ship proudly sailed the sea. One of the place in the world to experience a magnificent wreck diving is Bali. Not only that it has the monumental USAT Liberty—an American warship wreck that conveniently sit in shallow water—but it also have several fascinating wrecks around the island that’s worth to explore. Photographing the wreck is quite challenging—given the location to be potentially dangerous to divers. Follow our little guide on how to take impressive wreck photography and leave with unforgettable experience.

Capture the Awesomeness of Wreck Diving Bali in Wide Angle Shoot

Diving the Wreck in Bali: Underwater Photography Guide

Wreck usually tends to be the biggest object that divers encountered while diving in Bali. Even the smallest wreck in this island, the Japanese shipwreck, is bigger than any fishes around it. The best way to capture its whole grandiose is by using the wide angle shoot. Go for the big atmospheric shoot that gives viewers an idea of how big the wreck really is. An 8m fisheye is the best for this type of shoot and once you can master it, the results cannot be beaten.

Middle Light to Illuminate the Wreck

Ring light and strobe is essential on wreck diving photography. Without the right light, the wrecks would just be buried in shadow and darkness. Our favourite light is a video light mounted in the middle of the camera rig. However, you should always prepare an alternative such as strobes or flashlight that you can pull for a supporting light.

    Take A Down Shoot

Underwater photography usually shoot up to get the a vibrant and animated marine life. However, the mantra would not really work on wreck. Try to apply shooting down technique. On your way down the wreck, stop in the middle and take out your camera. Pick a position where you can capture the whole body of the wreck and, better, if you can display a bit of the surrounding to display a real scale of the wreck diving Bali you’re on.

Points Out Marine Life in Wreck Diving Bali

Points Out Marine Life in Wreck Diving Bali

One of things that makes wrecks in Bali so spectacular is the teeming marine life that called the wreck home! The USAT Liberty and Japanese wreck is two of the best wrecks in Bali with vibrant marine life. Show your audience how life under the sea happens at a sunken man-made objects. Shoot those blooming corals on the mast, a turtle passing the ship, or those fishes who dart around the empty windows.

    Bring Your ISO Up

You might have learned that going at the lowest ISO possible is recommended to bring up colours and reduce noise. However, you can bend the rule a little when diving the wreck in Bali. Most newer cameras even have excellent noise reduction feature so going higher in ISO should not be a problem. Remember that there’s not much light that can penetrate a wreck. You can go as high as 800 – 1000 ISO to get excellent colour in the wreck with still acceptable noise.

Choosing Nusa Dua Beach Resort for Luxury & Utmost Privacy

Tucked at a corner of the famed Bali island, Nusa Dua is a resort village that boasts luxurious hotels and fine living with a varied price range. Staying at a Nusa Dua beach resort can be the perfect choice for those who are looking to spend their Bali vacation finding the ultimate relaxation. And it feels especially private thanks to the fact that the area is out of the way from the crazy hustle bustle in Bali.

Choosing Nusa Dua Beach Resort for Luxury & Utmost Privacy

Why stay in a Nusa Dua beach resort?

There are virtually limitless more affordable options out there. So why stay at a luxury or a 5-star hotel? We’re not going to compare the pros and cons on luxury and rental accommodations because they’re certainly different – and we’ve loved staying at rental apartments, and have stayed there on many of our trips and we could certainly recommend them more than luxury beach resorts. But when is staying at a Nusa Dua resort will truly give you value?

Firstly, consider what kind of traveler you are. Solo travelers probably would loathe staying at a resort as it doesn’t give the authentic feel of the destination. However, if you’re traveling with family, with kids especially, you’ll appreciate your decision staying at an all-inclusive or luxury names. The same could be said when you travel with the whole family including your parents. Family vacations is more stressful than solo or smaller groups, the convenience and the extra-service that are just readily available for you (or a simple phonecall away) is going to save you from headache.

One of the most peaceful areas in Bali

Choosing Nusa Dua Beach Resort for Luxury & Utmost Privacy

Tranquil beaches and well-maintained area where you can relax all day long without the busy crowd is what Nusa Dua all about. Staying at the BTDC neighborhood may not offer you much adventure, but the place is just perfect for families or couples looking to simply relax and enjoy the sun. Privacy and comfort

The area of Nusa Dua, while still a part of South Bali and included in the Kuta regency, feels like a world away from Kuta. Or any of its surrounding areas like Legian, and even Seminyak, that’s considered more upscale compared to its neighbor.

Nusa Dua is no doubt a resort village, and it can feel like you’re way secluded thanks to the curated feel it has. But not to worry, despite the tranquil and peace you can enjoy in the area, Nusa Dua beach resort is only 30 minutes ride away to the main tourist happenings. If your destination is Denpasar (or beyond) it’s also faster these days because you can take the highway, free of traffic. Staying in the area gives you a much-needed privacy as well as a good access to the city.

Tiny things better to bring before you travel

For those of you who want to travel, packing the items that will be transported during the trip is a crucial moment. If the preparation is minimal, we can forget the important things during the trip. On the contrary, things that are not so important are taken away. Well, to make your travel activities safe, comfortable and unforgettable. Yes, your passport and wallet (and probably clean underwear) deserve to be at the top of your packing list. But in a rush to remember the basics, travelers sometimes underestimate the power of the wealthy. Humble items, ranging from an empty reusable water bottle to bandages, can save time and money and go a long way in improving the quality of your trips. Here are the items we often forget to pack – and always regret not having it in our suitcase.

    A first aid kit

Tiny things better to bring before you travel

Bulbs occur. So, do some scratches and scratches. Don’t be that person who ends up spending $ 7 on a pack of five bandages because you forgot to throw a few in your bag when you were packing.

    Lip balm

Even if you don’t normally use lip balm, it can still be an important item to pack. Breathe the air of a dry plane, go out in the sun, eat salty food in transit – travel inevitably causes mild dehydration and chapped lips.

    Reusable water bottle

Tiny things better to bring before you travel

Reusable water bottles are worth their weight when you travel. Throw your empty water bottle of your choice in your hand luggage, then fill it after airport security (if you prefer to avoid the fountains, just ask at a cafe or restaurant). When you reach your destination, your next refill is as close as the tap, as long as the water is drinkable

    Hand sanitizer

The health authority recommends frequent hand washing to prevent disease. Since hygiene standards vary by destination and the trinity of handwashing with water soap is not always available, keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer in your day pack as an asset

    Emergency snack

Tiny things better to bring before you travel

There are dozens of scenarios in which an emergency snack could prove useful. You arrive late at a hotel without room service. You miss your train and you find yourself stuck in a country station where live pigeons are the only source of protein. Your night connection is canceled and all stores are closed at the airport. Protein bars, nuts and other items that aren’t soft or need to be refrigerated are perfect snacks to keep in your bag.

    Copies of travel documents

The last thing most people want to do when packing is to scan and print or photocopy their passports and other important documents. However, in the unlikely but serious case of the loss or theft of your passport or visa, it is very useful to have an additional copy.

Just breathe normally—but instead of inhaling and exhaling from your nose, you do it through your mouth. And don’t stop breathing—no matter what happens. Remember your pace, relax, and try to not get faster than you should.

    Calmly Rise to the Surface

Some beginners make mistake by rushing to the surface as soon as the dive time is nearing its limit. That’s a bad idea. Sudden change of pressure from the water and the air could hurt your lunge.
